Tourism industry says the international arrival guidelines lack clarity
The travel and tourism industry is not very happy with the way the MoHFW has drafted the guidelines for international travellers aspiring to visit India once the country reopens and e-Visa process restarted from November 15. The industry complains that the guidelines are quite ambiguous and needs clarity on many aspects, especially the approach towards citizens from countries which are not listed in the two categories.

There are a lot of confusions in the latest guidelines. The government should have made it simple and unambiguous, said Rajiv Mehra, President of Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO). He said that the Association has conveyed its concern with regard to the guidelines to the Tourism Ministry. “We will take it up officially with the government soon,” he said.

More clarity is required in the case of the UK which is included in both the list as of now. The government says that the list of countries will remain dynamic and will be updated periodically.

Mehra said that the government should have made the categorisation simple such as travellers who require RT-PCR and those who do not require an RT-PCR. He said that there is no clarity vis-a-vis the approach of the government towards citizens from countries which are not included in the Category A, countries with which India has mutual agreements and recognise vaccines mutually, and the ‘risk’ category.“There is a lack of clarity in the guidelines as far as approach towards citizens from the UK. They have included Europe including the UK in the list of countries that need extra protocols. Again, countries like Austria, Switzerland are not included in the list at all,” said Sajeev Kurup, General Secretary of Confederation of Kerala Tourism Industry (CKTI) and Chairman of the Ayurveda Tourism Committee of FICCI.
