After the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture expressed its displeasure with the progress achieved in Swadesh Darshan Scheme, the flagship programme of the Ministry of Tourism, the government has informed that they are currently reviewing the scheme.
Since its launch in January 2015, the government has sanctioned 76 projects worth INR 5,588.44 cr in the past six years. As per the minister’s response, out of 76 projects sanctioned only 11 projects are physically completed, 34 others are nearing completion and remaining ones are under various stages of implementation. The scheme was intended to promote integrated development of theme-based tourist circuits in the country. The parliamentary standing committee in its report tabled in LS, during the current session had expressed disappointment in the slow pace of implementation of the centrally-funded schemes under the SDS. The achievements are not remarkable, the standing committee noted.
